Despite falling to their first defeat of the 2018/2019 Premier League season, the odds that Manchester City will retain the Premier League are still pretty high. The reigning champions lost at Stamford Bridge to Chelsea and have fallen to second place – one point behind league leaders, Liverpool.
Their 2-0 loss at the hands of Chelsea is merely a bad day at the office – a temporary stop. One that head coach, Pep Guardiola will look to correct. The players donning the bright blue on Saturday looked nothing like their usual selves struggling to create decent goalscoring chances.
On the note of chances, Manchester city stands high with a total of 488 chances created and a total of 45 goals in 16 matches – an impressive tally. Manchester City has won 87% of their matches, conceding only 0.47 goals on average per match.
Undoubtedly, the most important factor why Manchester will win the league once again is their squad depth. Despite losing some of their starters to injury, they have managed perfectly well without them. De Bruyne, Manchester City’s best midfielder has been sidelined for so long. Bernando Silva, the man who was called upon to substitute De Bruyne, has done so quite perfectly and the Belgian playmaker is hardly missed.
Pep Guardiola is another factor and the driving force behind Manchester City’s recent success. The manager has taken control of his squad and has managed to keep most players satisfied with game time. This satisfaction can be seen on the pitch as the players play with a fluidity that is unrivaled by any other team.
It is important to state that the season is still very long and it is a fact that anything can happen in football especially with the fact that Liverpool, Manchester City’s closest rival has been knocking down every team in their way. However, due to reasons stated above, Manchester City will retain the Premier League title because, they indeed, beyond the shadow of any doubt, are the best team in England.
