The current Spain manager Julen Lopetegui has been announced as the new coach for Real Madrid after Zinedine Zidane had resigned earlier his month. The announcement was made in an emergency situation as six of the Real Madrid players in Spanish NT were aware of the deal but another player from the squad noticed the change. Hence, the official announcement was to avoid any awkward situations in the dressing room of the national side.
Julen Lopetegui was not one of the rumored names for the job and was the least anticipated one. The coach earlier has made some statements regarding the rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo which may not be the best thing in the current scenario as Cristiano Ronaldo has already hinted towards an exit. Julen Lopetegui claimed that Messi is the best player in the world and voted for the Argentine in the Ballon d’Or 2016.
On being asked if the Portuguese star would leave Real Madrid, the Spanish coach washed off his hands from playing any role in the decision of the 33-year-old.
“Good teams have plenty of good players but his (Cristiano Ronaldo) future, on the other hand, is not something to do with me.”
Though in the previous years, Julen Lopetegui has regarded the Real Madrid man as one of the greatest ever.
“He is the player with most merit that I can remember, he has been able to live with Messi and take away individual and team trophies from him, he is an extraordinary competitor based on discipline and work. He has led teams for many years.”
Though he praised the 5-time Champions League winner, Julen Lopetegui still considers the rival and Barcelona man, Leonel Messi as the best ever.
“He (Messi) is the best player that I have known. It is difficult for us to see someone like him again.”
The comments of the new coach are subject to his honest personal opinion but the timing of such comments are not liked by the fans of Real Madrid. In the scenario when Cristiano Ronaldo had made claims regarding leaving the club, such comments may not help the club for keeping the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner in Madrid.
The comments are made as Lopetegui is in Russia for the FIFA World Cup 2018, this might not be the best platform to address the club related issues but after the official announcement, some of the comments regarding the burning issues of the Spanish capital side were expected to be addressed.
Gareth Bale is one another name which is highly expected to leave the club as the Welsh player himself hinted towards the exit after the UEFA Champions League Final in Kiev.
Currently, the Spanish coach prepares for the opening game of Spain in the World Cup against Portugal, the side led by Cristiano Ronaldo. The kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM CET on 15th June 2018.
The FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia will be commenced on 14th June 2018 at 4:00 PM CET.
The first game between home team Russia and Saudi Arabia will be played in Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow at 5:00 PM CET.
